I use this book when I give children time outs. It promotes independence and maturity by giving children the opportunity to reflect on their behaviour and gives them insights into how to change their attitude to return to class.
The book begins with instructions to help all children access the book (with visual stimuli for children with language barriers and special educational needs). The class rules are then given to the child, with examples of children following them well in the classroom. The book end on a positive note, helping the child return to class with an improved attitude.
I think it is really important to show pictures of children in the class following the rules (especially those children that will be using the book more frequently than others). I add pictures of my children following each of the class rules and explain it in the caption to the side. I have left a space (with instructions) so that you can make this personal to your own class! This can be altered for any classroom and any age group.
NB: The preview shows the format of the book slightly different to what it is. It shows the text and word art all over the place, but rest assured it is fine when you open it. (Email me if there are any issues!)
This has been so successful in my classroom and I really hope it is in yours as well!
**I have laminated and bound this book but you can easily just print it out and staple it- whatever you like!**
