I decided to help engage my kids in history this year by learning history through the eyes of a time traveler. This unit is made up of 4 lessons. Each lesson contains a PowerPoint and a note taking guide.
The 13 Colonies: In this PPT, kids will go back in time and travel to the New England, middle and southern regions in the 13 colonies. They will meet and learn from 8 people including a land surveyor (to learn about how geography effected settlements), a puritan child, Anne Hutchinson, the Duke of York, William Penn, Lord Baltimore, an enslaved farm worker, and James Oglethorpe.
Daily Life in the Colonies: In this PPT, kids will go back in time and travel to the the 13 colonies to learn about daily life in the colonies. They will meet and learn from 6 people including a dock worker in New England, a merchant, a slave who traveled on the triangular trade route, a farmer, the farmer's children, and a preacher from the Great Awakening.
Slavery in the Colonies: In this PPT, kids will go back in time to explore slavery in the colonies. The journey begins in a village in Africa, continues onto the slave ship and to a slave auction, then explores the differences between slavery in the north and the south, including slave revolts and uprisings.
The French and Indian War: In this PPT, kids will go back in time to explore the French and Indian War. On this journey students will explore King Philip's War, Fort Duquesne, Fort Necessity, Pontiac's Rebellion, and the Proclamation of 1763.
