Help your students to gain speed and accuracy in conjugating present tense verbs. Track their progress over 10 time trials. How many correct conjugations can they do in 1 minute? Or 2 minutes? Keep track on a graph. Answer keys provided so students can self-correct their work.
Students love trying to beat their score (and also their friends' scores)! I usually grade them on participation and overall progress - did they get better over 10 time trials? We usually spread it out so we do one a day for two weeks or so.
There are many modifications you can make to this assignment. You can have them go to 2 minutes if you feel 1 minute is too short. You can also have them draw a line where they stop at the clocked time, then have them do 10 more for practice. Students can also write the translations to the side once the clock stops. Can they beat the teacher? This is a fun one.
The files are DOC so you can modify the verbs or even the tenses if you want to do something other than present tense.
Includes a study guide sheet with pronouns, regular ar/er/ir endings, irregular verbs, stem-changers, and irregular yo conjugations used in this Time Trial activity.
***I have done this with both HS and MS students and while at first they complain about doing conjugations, by the last time trial they are literally BEGGING me to make MORE! ALL students manage to improve and usually DOUBLE their number of conjugations in 2 minutes, and only a handful hit 40 (with not more than 5 seconds to spare). ENJOY!
