The end of the year is a great time to use this creative engineering and history project. It is highly motivational, your kids will beg you to let them work on it. The goal of this project is build a model of a “time warp machine” so that a marble will travel through a historically themed shoe box. They will begin by researching a historical event or a time period. They will decorate their shoebox using elements from their research. Then create a series of ramps for a marble to travel through their box. They will use the engineers’ five phase process to develop their model (Design, Construct, Test, Evaluate, and Redesign). All you need is a shoe box, toilet paper tubes and imagination to create a fun learning experience for your students. Directions, rubrics and student examples are included.
