Time: Hour and Half Hour - Are you looking for a fun way to practice telling time? Your students will love this scavenger hunt activity! Each child receives his own paper watch to wear while they record the times on their friend’s watches. The pack includes activities and worksheets for teaching hour and half hour in digital, written word and clock face formats.
Included in the pack are:
- A set of 12 wrist watches (hour)
- A set of 12 wrist watches (half hour)
- 3 differentiated “record the time” check lists
- 6 “who has” scavenger hunt sheets
- 6 check your watch worksheets
- 3 “what time is it?” review worksheets
- Large blank watch for teacher demonstrations
- Blank templates for watches, check lists and worksheets.
Distribute the watch strips and ask each child to color and cut it out. Use sticky tape to fasten their giant watches onto their wrists, then give each child a scavenger hunt sheet or check list. Ask them to walk, silently, around the room and look at each other’s watches to find the information required. Ensure there is no talking so that each child is getting lots of practice at reading the time on the watches.
Once they have completed the task they can gain further practice by filling out the accompanying worksheets. Each worksheet has a sand timer image on it for students to self assess their work, coloring all of it if they think they have done well.
This pack has been designed so it can be used to teach each concept separately (so there are different watches, worksheets and check lists for hour, half hour, digital time and written time). However, it also includes review sheets and the other activities can easily be mixed to suit your lesson. It can be easily differentiated by selecting check lists with more or less requirements and also includes blank sheets so that you can create your own for individual students.
Please note this activity is for teaching hour and half hour time telling. I will soon be adding a pack for quarter to/past so be sure to follow my store so you don’t miss it! All of the pages in this pack are in b&w for easy and cheap photocopying but if you would prefer a color copy then let me know.
Please rate and comment if you find this pack useful (and earn yourself some credits!) and let me know if there is anything I can do to improve it or adapt it so it better suits the needs of your students.
