The Time to Read bookmarks were designed to use in schoolwide reading competitions at my school. Often, the reading specialist and I sponsor schoolwide reading challenges to invite homerooms or different grade levels to compete against one another. In these competitions, we check to see which team reads the most minutes for fun within a certain time frame.
Our contest motivate the students but they have trouble remembering how many minutes they’ve read for fun each day and need help keeping track. We needed a handy way for students to log how many minutes they were reading each day that was portable and wouldn’t be overlooked. So, I designed these reading log bookmarks. I print these double-sided on bright color paper or cardstock and make them available to students during the reading competition. They can stick the bookmark in their book and each time they read, jot down how many minutes they read. Now, they keep an accurate total of the minutes they read and have them available for when they need to submit their minutes for the contest. It’s been a huge help to our students!
You can use these bookmarks in your own reading competitions or to encourage students to read a certain amount of time each day. Or perhaps a parent is looking for a way to keep track of how much their child is reading. I hope these bookmarks can help you and your students! Enjoy! Jen
