I don’t know about y’all, but when I first started teaching students how to write essays one of their biggest weaknesses was supporting their ideas. Because of this their essays often fell flat, and as I spent more and more time critiquing each individual essay I kept thinking, there’s got to be a better way to reach them.
So, I started using a brainstorming method that directly connected their ideas to real world examples, and then I pushed them to their limits by showing them that it’s possible to write an entire essay in 13 minutes, and that’s what this product is.
An expository essay prompt in STAAR style, which includes a quote and a think about question.
A PowerPoint that encourages brainstorming as a class, plus TWO timed essays that breaks down each part of the essay and includes sentence stems for those students who just don’t know how to start. One essay is in the four paragraph style for those testers with line constraints. The other is the standard five paragraph essay.
A ‘How to use this product’ PDF for the teacher who has never taught this way.
English II TEKS:
13A, 13B, 15A i-vi, 24
