Product Description
The items on these timeline cards reflects the time period covered in the Ohio Standards for Social Studies. I have included a list so you know what you are getting. There are 122 cards, four per page. I included the dates, people and places that I cover over the course of the year. This timeline is used to hang on a bulletin board or around the room on a tack strip. I use it on a tack strip on four sides on my room. One side is the B.C. side and it is in increments of 3,000 years, the next side is in increments of 100 years (0-1600), another side is from 1700-1890 in increments of 10 years and the fourth side is from 1900-present also in increments of 10. We have discussions on why picking increments is important and that you can have different increments but you must be consistent within one timeline.
I also have a set of cards in a center and students will get them out and play games with them. They put them in chronological order, they try to play rummy and get runs of different time periods or collect battles or famous people from a certain time period. As long as they are talking about the cards I let them use them any way they wish. Sometimes I am amazed at how they decide to sort them and that they want to use them during inside recess. I hope you can find a create use for them as well besides the timeline!
There is a list of people, places and events in the preview so you will know exactly what is included. I hope you find this helpful!
**Please note I researched using several books and internet sites to compile the information on each card. It is correct to the best of my knowledge and interpretation. If you need to use a different date on a card due to your textbook or the major event you are teaching you can use a white sticker to cover the date and I used Comic San 24, bold, so you can change the dates.
