Timelines are introduced or reviewed with events in the history of Hawai’i's annexation and becoming the 50th state. Timeline topics include: Captain James Cook, King Kamehameha, Queen Lili'uokalani's forced abdication, the attack at Pearl Harbor, and more. A detailed and a simplified timeline with a page of questions including calculating elapsed time for each are included to differentiate for learners of different levels.
To wrap up the timeline unit and assess learning, a blank surfboard timeline is included for students to complete independently about events from their own life or can be used with other chronological events.
Writing stationery is included so students can do a summary of their own surfboard timeline to practice a sequence of events text structure in wide rule, narrow rule, and primary rule.
The Hawai'ian timeline unit study includes color and grayscale options for each page and answer keys. In deference to the native Polynesian Hawai'ian people, this spelling “Hawai’i” is used throughout the unit.
