Content Standards and Achievement Tests
The concept of a Timeline is listed in the Ohio Content Standards for Social Studies under the category of Historical Thinking and Skills. Timelines first appear in the 2nd grade Content Standards and continue through the 8th grade.
Both reading, and creating timelines, are addressed on 5th grade and the 8th grade Achievement Tests.
Fifth Grade Content Standards target multi-tiered Timelines.

Timelines are addressed in the area of Social Studies for several reasons: they are critical to understanding cause and effect, establishing sequence, organizing information, highlighting the important events in history, and telling the story of people in a logical order (biography).
In this packet, have put together hands-on, step-by-step directions for making a timeline, examples of timelines and Achievement Test formatted questions to use with a timeline.
