This fun song engages students through its humorous text (in Spanish and English) as well as its xylophone and woodblock accompaniment. Students will not only expand their world music repertoire, but they will also play an ostinato pattern on the wood block and a descending chord bordun on xylophones. This lesson worked perfectly with my second grade students at the end of the year, but it would also be great for beginning third grade students. Your students will not only have fun while engaging with this lesson, but they will also demonstrate many important music objectives. These include learning about an introduction, a chord bordun, an ostinato pattern, music of other cultures, pitch matching, rhythm exploration, and more. This product includes the white board lesson as well as the sheet music for "Tinga Layo". Also included are several lesson extension suggestions which provide students with opportunities for composing, dramatizing, researching, and comparing and contrasting other folk songs. These extensions are great integration of literacy skills and social studies! Enjoy "Tinga Layo"!
