Throughout my career, I've had many ELL parents ask me how they can help their children with school if they don't speak English. Research shows that ELLs who have a strong foundation in their native language are better able to acquire and and use a second language effectively. Therefore, I always encourage parents to practice the same skills we're learning in school in English at home in their native language as well.
This one page tip sheet for parents is included in both English and Spanish, and outlines how parents can help their early ELLs acquire basic skills that are important in any language. Great for a back-to-school night or parent night handout!
