Use this interactive bulletin board to help students add voice and spice up their writing by replacing vague and overused words. You can also have students add personalized word choice lists to their writing notebooks with an interactive foldable template.
Pages 1 – 3 Bulletin Board Title and Informational Card
Print on cardstock, cut, and laminate if desired. Post on wall or bulletin board where students can easily access it during writing.
Pages 4 – 24 Overused Word Pockets and Synonym Cards
Print on cardstock, cut, and laminate if desired. Fold pockets and glue, tape, or staple; pin or staple to bulletin board. Cut color-coded synonym cards apart and place in the matching pockets. (Teach students to return the words to the correct pocket after using them.)
Overused Words -- Twelve synonyms are provided for each word.
Pages 25 – 26 Blank Word Pockets and Synonym Cards
So you and your students can add your own favorite words to this board!
Pages 27 – 28 Interactive Notebook Foldable Template
Copy one (or more; this foldable includes six overused words per page) of each page for every student. Have students cut and glue pg. 27 into their notebooks. Then cut and glue only the center strip of page 28 on top. Cut the flaps apart (from outside edge toward the center) so that students can lift one pocket at a time. Fill in an overused word on the front of each pocket, and write three favorite synonyms on the line beneath the flap.
