To play: Have students set up scenes as indicated on card sequence. After rolling 1-2 dice labeled with 1-3 dots, students change coordinating element task card(s) that corresponds with the number(s) rolled.
After the student sets up the scene as the task cards indicate, (s)he will formulate a grammatically complete sentence. For example “The fox is beside the snowman”. To target pronouns, have students then replace the nouns with pronouns in their self-generated sentences. To target past tense, students can generate a sentence that begins with “Yesterday….” If you have more than one ’Tis the Season play set, you can utolize the pair in a barrier game supported by visual directions for character placement.
Suggested Articulation word lists are included to provide opportunities to elicit target sounds during a structured language activity. The checklist format is conducive to student accountability and ownership. A visual model is also provided for student reference.
Students may also set up the scene to their choosing and use the companion mat as a visual to sequence what is happening in their scene. The Recap board can be used to organize their narrative and encourage them to add specific detailed in an organized manner.
