This Titanic Problem-Based Learning Unit was developed at the Duke TIP Summer Institute for Educators under the mentor-ship of Dr. Shelagh Gallagher, our nation's expert in Problem-Based Learning. In this unit, students are asked to work in small groups to organize an exhibition around various Titanic artifacts that have been recently salvaged. Students are then thrown a curve ball when they are suddenly sued by one of the descendants of the someone that owned one of the artifacts. Students will have to review case law on possession and ownership to determine if they are allowed to include that artifact in their exhibit. Students then create a multimedia project to display their exhibition proposal.
