This packet is designed to give a basic overview of the facts and historical context of the sinking of the Titanic. Students will place the route on a world map, as well as complete a relative timeline where they place Titanic in order in relation to other events of history. Students will examine facts of the sinking, and will graph figures relating to the casualties of Titanic. Students will analyze and evaluate that data to make inferences about the societal norms and values of the era in which the sinking took place. Students will examine factors contributing to the death toll, including lifeboat capacities and legal requirements. Students will write a news article summarizing important elements of the sinking.
