Do your students love learning about the Titanic? Looking for a way to differentiate for all of the students in your class?
Look no further. This is a tiered lesson meant to help students gain a deeper understanding of the Titanic -- regardless of their level. I have included all of the pages of activities you will need as well as links to other resources for you to use as you see fit.
I have used all of them with my students -- and they have loved them all. We used it with the books Finding the Titanic by Robert Ballard and I Survived the Titanic by Lauren Tarshis.
This unit usually lasts between 2-3 weeks. I integrate technology by having students use Ipads and laptops to navigate through websites as there are rich resources on the web. We also listen to survivor videos and take notes on first and second hand accounts as a part of our unit.
Tier 1 (simple)
Tier 2 (medium)
Tier 3 (difficult)
When I assign this activity, students are to choose 3. With my gifted students, I advise them to choose all 3 from tier 3. (Lower grades would need to modify). I also have differentiated for my special needs students by having them only complete 2 projects from any tier.
Of course you could have students complete as many or as few as they would like.
