PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This lesson uses Tlingit totem poles to teach what symbolism is, and why it was so important to Native Americans. The students are then asked to create their own totem pole, to further their understanding of the material being taught by using Native American animal symbols to represent their family. This lesson covers specific NJ standards for second grade social studies as well. (Standards are explicitly listed in lesson plan.)
