In this product, there are 5 different pages which deals with checking (enforcing) the understanding of whether the line is rising, falling, vertical, or horizontal. Each of the 5 pages will ask students to describe the line based on the given information which is as follows:

* Page 1: By looking at a given graph
* Page 2: By looking at a given slope
* Page 3: By working with a set or ordered pair
* Page 4: By working with an equation written in slope-intercept form
* Page 5: By working with an equation written in standard form

Students could work on the attached PDF file as groups, pairs, individually, or as a homework. Then, a student will come up to the board to utilize the infinite cloner available with the smart notebook software and drag either "Rising", "Falling", "Horizontal" or "Vertical" to the relationship represented. The answer key is provided at the end.

This file is also attached as a PDF just in case you don't have the smart notebook software. In this case, I will seat the students in groups or stations (centers) and ask them to answer the questions on the attached sheets. By cooperative learning, students will have a better understanding of this concept.

Another option is to have "Rising", "Falling", "Horizontal", and "Vertical" cut on cards and students will have to place the cards over the representation. Another idea is to pass the small "Dry Erase Boards" if available. Then, the teacher will show the representation on the board and ask students to write "Rising", "Falling", "Horizontal", or "Vertical" on their individual board and raise it up. This will give you a quick check over this concept. Finally, if you have access to communicators, you could insert a copy of this handout into the communicator and student would need to write the answers on the communicator.

Also, you may use this file (all or some) as "to do now" If you have smart notebook, you may drag a page or so from this file to your main file and make it part of your lesson.

Please keep in mind that If you do not have a Smartboard, you can still use this product by using Smart Notebook Interactive Viewer. This program is a free download from www.smarttech.com.

P.S. If you wish to print this file from the Smart Notebook software, I would recommend printing it using the full page option on landscape.

If you wish to print as a "PDF" file, you could either print each page separate or print multiple pages together utilizing the PDF print menu.
