To Catch a Cat Thief consists of 48 “story cards” designed to help children (ages 6-10) improve their ability to express themselves in any second language, as well as English (for ELA or as L1).
Their storytelling aspect helps children remember structures and vocabulary, and stimulates their imagination and storytelling skills.
As the cards have no written word, they can be adapted for use with children of different levels and ages, with any language. This flexibility allows for children to loosen up with the language, gain confidence, and eventually tell stories of their own.
Included in the product are:
48 action cards, telling the story of Fingers Malone.
A powerpoint version of the story for easier use in larger classrooms.
Instructions and suggestions for using the cards.
Depending on the age and language skills of the group, these cards can be used to practice:
Basic structures: prepositions of place, verbs of motion, basic sentence structure: He is standing outside the house. She is in bed.
More advanced narrative structures: One night, Fingers Malone was standing outside the home of Peggy Setter. He went into her room while she was sleeping.
The cards can be printed in two different sizes: flash card size (6.9” x 5.5” = 17.5cm x 13.6cm), as well as full page size (9.1” x 7.1” = 23.15cm x 18cm), depending on group size. We suggest printing with photographic paper for durability and the best image.
