This assignment was created for Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird; however, the assignment could be modified to any novel.
The Character Graph Log is a graphic organizer that challenges students to analyze how 19 complex characters in To Kill A Mockingbird develop over the course of the text, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme. This assignment also provides an assessment of reading comprehension to the teacher or facilitator.
This graphic organizer was assigned to my Pre-AP 9th grade English students when we began reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The students were asked to complete the graphic organizer as they read the novel.
The assignment requires students to provide a characterization summary, make inferences regarding character's physical or emotional traits, analyze important quotations, and relate fictional characters to real-life characters.
