This packet provides you with 8 opinion-based, contentious questions that measures a student's personal understanding of To Kill A Mockingbird. I use these questions in my 90 minute Pre-AP English Courses. Students are assigned the questions in the class period prior to the Seminar Discussion. Students are, then, expected to return to class the next day with them completed in order to participate in the discussion.
These seminars always end up being my students' favorite part of class. The questions challenge students to form their own personal opinion about controversial concepts presented in Harper Lee's novel, relate themes and plot instances to situations in our modern world, and to be tolerant of ideas and opinions that may differ from their own.
I have included the rubric that I use to grade students' participation during the seminar.
