Students will develop a sense of empathy as they work through this lesson for To Kill a Mockingbird. "Put yourself in someone else's shoes," is a theme which runs throughout this novel. In this lesson, students draw a particular shoe out of a container (pictures of all kinds of shoes included) and then they develop a character who would live in those shoes. There is a graphic organizer included to help character development, and there is also a peer editing activity included! My students loved this exercise, and yours will too!
