These four assignments are for the novel To Kill a Mockingbird and are geared for meeting common core standards. The first assignment is a close reading analyzing Atticus Finch's closing remarks to the jury. Students identify the rhetorical strategies Atticus uses (logos, pathos and ethos) and the effectiveness of his speech. The same assignment has students compare and contrast the scene in the movie to the book.
The second assignment has students look closely at the trial, using evidence to support their responses.
The third assignment is a final test which is all short answer and geared to cover all of the reading literature standards in the core.
The last assignment is an in-depth compare and contrast worksheet between the entire movie and the book.
