This activity has the student place himself into Jem's shoes in chapter 11 of To Kill a Mockingbird. As an adult Jem, the student is asked to write a letter to Atticus, thanking him for the punishment that Atticus gives to Jem when Jem cuts Mrs. Dubose's camellias. This activity gives the student an opportunity to make a connection with the character and one of the themes of the novel.
