This assignment will assist students to recognize character development such as the foil, parallel, and catalyst characters in Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will work in groups to identify these types of characters in the novel. They will then write an expository paper to explain how the author uses these characters throughout the work. A list of characters that fit into these three categories is included as well as two examples of introductory paragraphs that will help initiate student writing
