Balanced Literacy approach to teaching To Kill a Mockingbird. Rather than focusing on the teaching of the text, focus on the message of the novel and the skills students need to be successful in your class.
This bundle provides resources for using the beginning of the TKAM movie to teach the first 16 chapters of the book. Resources include: teaching students how to take notes on film, TKAM character analysis graphic organizers for watching the film, and notes that give plot connections between the film and the book, so you know where your students are in the "reading."
I've included a zip file of ppt and PDF versions of the resources. I also have links to support the use of the resources via Google Drive. PLEASE email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or comment below if you have any issues accessing the resources.
Coming next: Using the script of the courtroom scene to teach argumentation. Then, writing resources on breaking down the skills of argumentative writing, while using To Kill a Mockingbird as a mentor text.
