The Black Nurse in a White Household is an excerpt from Lillian Smith's autobiography Killers of the Dream. Smith describes the place that black nurses occupied in white households.

I have taken the single paragraph and created ten context vocabulary questions and a Constructed Response question to go along with it. The goal here is multifaceted. First, I would like students to understand Calpurnia's role within the Finch household from an autobiographical point of view while also giving students more exposure to context based vocabulary.

The primary purpose of creating this activity was to prepare students for Keystone Tests in Pennsylvania. However, I have lifted the questions straight from the common core standards.
