    Bundle Description

You won't find a more comprehensive and engaging package for To Kill a Mockingbird on the Internet!

I spent countless hours over several months creating and perfecting these resources and there's no sense in hoarding them all for myself.

    Bundle includes:-

    Part One:

    • 15 pages of Guided Notes - beautifully illustrated, yet extensive in analysis and detail and littered with textual evidence. (answer key included)

    • 112 PowerPoint slides - sister product of the guided notes. More vibrant than the notes and includes extension activities. Virtually every slide includes appropriate CCSS for that skill.

    • 10 page test (43 multiple choice & 1 constructed response) + student answer sheets - All questions are Common Core aligned with plenty of textual evidence. Constructed response includes a rubric to help students succeed and teachers to seamlessly and objectively score literary analysis. (multiple choice answer key included)/ There are two versions of the same test. The questions for the original version are weighted (for example, questions requiring multiple answers are worth more than those that only require one answer). This can make scoring tests a little more difficult, therefore I created an option in which all test questions are weighted the same.

    • Creative project with rubric. This project was created with the PARCC Narrative Writing Task in mind. For this project, students retell an event (Chapter) from the perspective of a different character. Project includes: student directions, plot map, and rubric.

    • Detailed, though easy to follow day-by day Unit Plan

    Part Two:

    • 15 pages of Guided Notes - beautifully illustrated, yet extensive in analysis and detail and littered with textual evidence. (answer key included)

    • 162 PowerPoint slides - sister product of the guided notes. More vibrant than the notes and includes extension activities. Virtually every slide includes appropriate CCSS for that skill.

    • 9 page test (40 multiple choice & 1 constructed response) + student answer sheets - All questions are Common Core aligned with plenty of textual evidence.(multiple choice answer key included). Again, there are two versions of the same test. The questions for the original version are weighted (for example, questions requiring multiple answers are worth more than those that only require one answer). This can make scoring tests a little more difficult, therefore I created an option in which all test questions are weighted the same.

    • Prepare your students for the literary analysis portion of standardized tests with 12 rigorous literary analysis writing prompts specific to To Kill a Mockingbird.

All prompts are labeled with common core standards in student-friendly terminology and include a visual outline. Virtually all standards are covered.

Some prompts are guided practice, some are independent, some are in between,

Worksheets are designed to align with the TEPAC model (Topic...Evidence...Paraphrase...Analyze...Conclude/Connect), which is a perfect framework for responding to literary analysis questions. Rubric and Sentence Starter Chart included in package.

Updated with handout, rubric, PowerPoint of prompts and sample answers, & necessary fonts

    Extension Activities:

    • Pre-reading Group Activity -

NOTE: I used this activity for a Compass Evaluation and received a Highly Effective rating as a result.

In this activity, students rotate to 5 stations in which they will obtain background knowledge on key concepts necessary for understanding and appreciating Scout's tale of childhood and social prejudices. Concepts are: background on Harper Lee, Jim Crow Laws, Expectations of Southern Women, Lynching & Mob Mentality, and The Great Depression). After absorbing the information provided, students select a higher order thinking question slip at random (each station has 4 HOT questions which allow students to respond to the information on a deeper, more meaningful way). Reflection slips are glued to a response sheet and discussed as a group though responses are individual.

    • "Putting Yourself in Someone Else's Skin" activity - In this activity, students look back on Scout's first day of school by not only recording details from her perspective, but also by making inferences on how her day would have been different had she been given Atticus' advice ("You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view--until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.") beforehand.

    • Poetry activities - carefully selected poems and analysis to connect to key events of the book (Tim Johnson incident & Tom Robinson Cross-examination)

    • Atticus Finch Body Biography activity - Students analyze this complex character in a visual way. Activity includes character analysis guidelines (written), character analysis instructions (visual) + silhouette of Atticus Finch, and a directions on writing a "I am" poem.

    • Say•Mean•Matter: Famous Quotes of To Kill a Mockingbird activity. Students look into a deeper understanding by paraphrasing key quotes from the text and discussing the relevance using these 17 quotes slips.
