Get your students prepared to read the novel To Kill a Mockingbird using one of the TWO included pre-reading activities! In the first activity worth around 20 points, students research author Harper Lee in addition to many important elements in the novel (like Jim Crow, and the Scottsborough Boys, the Monroe County Courthouse, the movie version, and Mockingbirds themselves). In the second, more thorough activity, students delve deeper into Southern culture and symbolism (around 50 points). Choose which one works for YOUR students! Students share information they have researched and include internet images for each element. This activity will provide your students with the foundation they need to relate to the book!
