Product Description
This is the only resource you need to teach the entire Part One of To Kill a Mockingbird. If you are looking for a reading guide for the entire novel, click here: To Kill a Mockingbird Complete Reading and Teaching Guide

With six Common Core Aligned sections, it is a comprehensive reading / study guide for the entire Part One (Chapters 1-11) of To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Designed with the teacher in mind as a Print and Go No Prep reading guide, this product can also be used as a resource for developing a unit full of engaging activities. Suggested classroom activities are included in the product. The six sections included in this reading guide are outlined here:
Section 1 – Reading Comprehension – 2 Pages – CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1 -- Reading comprehension questions for chapters 1-11.
Section 2 – Vocabulary – 2 Pages – Students define key words, write the word in a sentence of their own and then write a story using several of the words.
Section 3 – Character Analysis – 1 Page – CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.10 – Students analyze four major characters from Part One. Students track what the character does, describe the character in their own words and provide a passage from the novel to support their ideas.
Section 4 – Theme Theories – 2 Pages – CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2 – This section guides students through the process of determining a possible theme of the novel.
Section 5 – Language Study – 2 Pages – CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4 – Students consider the literary elements of Characterization, Mood, Setting, Symbolism and Theme. Using these literary elements as a guide, students analyze three key passages by rephrasing the passage in their own words and connecting it to 1-2 of the aforementioned literary elements.
Section 6 – Analysis of Author’s Craft – 1 Page – CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.6 – Students analyze Harper Lee’s choice of Scout as a narrator and use of a flashback as a literary device.
