Description

While it might be a sin to kill a mockingbird, it's a miracle to be able to kill two birds with one stone: practice the ACT AND give a reading quiz. That's what this assignment does.

You get a 10-question, ACT-style reading quiz on Harper Lee's classic To Kill a Mockingbird. These tests take forever to write. You also need to use very specific techniques in order to create an ACT kind of a test. We've done it for you.

You should get a Bell Curve from this quiz. An analysis will tell you the kinds of questions students have trouble with along with the kinds of distracters that make students slip up. Going over these kinds of reading skills questions in class can be very beneficial.

Once you see the usefulness in using ACT-style reading skills tests, you will want more of them. We have several available for various texts, but you can also use this 10-question quiz as a template. Similar to SAT reading, Common Core reading, and College and Career Readiness reading, too. This is NOT teaching to the test, however, which makes it the right way to practice for the ACT. Be sure to find our multiple choice correction forms, too. I always gave half the points back for students who turned in a correction form.

Even if you're not doing a classroom read of the novel, this is a good skills assessment reading test with the right number of questions to gain insights.

Traditional reading comprehension tests are great. This is better.
