This is a project idea for To Kill a Mockingbird. The overall objective is to get students to connect what they are reading with the outside world and to realize that good authors do not write in a vacuum. They write about the world around us and about topics that touch humanity.
I used this project with a regular level 9th grade literature class, but it can be adapted to fit other levels or for other books. For example, I homeschool my 6th grade niece and also had her do the same project on The Midwife's Apprentice. The projects came out really neat. The students got very creative.
