I created this lesson as an introduction for primary music students to explore the concept of phrase. This lesson uses a traditional nursery rhyme: "To Market, To Market" and challenges students to discover the similarities and differences in phrases - focused on text. The students then utilize body percussion and barred instruments to demonstrate their understanding of similar and different text phrases. The lesson also includes discussions about size and pitch relationship as well as instrument timbre. The product has ideas for expressive quality extensions and a copy of the notated rhyme. This lesson is a great introduction for discussing phrases and phrase relationships!
