If you've ever wanted to teach more about history than what is outlined in the curriculum, this is a great way that I came up with.
Students were to copy down 2 events each day in their portfolio, then were required to research one of the events and write 4 sentences about it to turn in each quarter.
This power point lists 3-7 events that have happened for each day (August 1- May 31) throughout American History.
Students choose which events they research so they take ownership of their learning. My students would be able to tell someone not only about the major events and topics we covered in class, but also about such topics as: Patty Hearst, Charles Manson, National Parks dedications, major sports and entertainment milestones, and Constitutional Amendment ratifications just to name a small portion.
This is honestly my favorite creation since I began teaching.
