The routine of Today's Number can be used in multiple grade levels in order to build number sense. The Today's Number routine helps students dive into thinking about numbers in various ways. This routine meets many Common Core Number Sense standards, across several grade levels.
In my third grade class, students work on this routine for a few minutes during our Math Skills block. While they work independently on this task, I can make sure that other students in the classroom are settled into their Math Skills block activity.
The number of the day will be assigned by the teacher or even chosen by a student! It can have some significance or it can just meet the grade level standard.
This product has two templates. Template A is a full page (8.5 x 11) sheet for students to work on. Template B is a half page for students to work on. Template B can easily be glued into a Math Journal or notebook. (FYI- Template B has two components that are missing from Template A. Template B does not have the "Making Equations" section on the bottom right. Unfortunately, this component would not fit on the half sheet. Also, Template B is missing one row in the "Different Ways to Show Today's Number" section.)
