Each year my class counts our days in school to the 100th day of school and beyond. One of the ways we keep track of what day we're on is with this Today's Number Chart. Each day we add one blue dot and record how many tens and ones we have and what that equals.
What a great way to visually show and connect what is meant by tens and ones for our early mathematicians in an authentic situation. Please check out the photo of the board I use in my class so you can see clearly what it looks like. Each year I remove the blue dots to clean it off for the following year. As you can see, it's ready for 2015-2016!
You'll have to do some cutting and pasting to get this ready for day one, but it will be well worth it in building student understanding about tens and ones on a daily basis..
Included are ten frames to copy, sentence frames to use and 7 headers to choose from. You'll need to provide the poster board. Hopefully the headers I've created will match your color scheme.
