A twist on Daily Number, Number of the Day, or Math Talks, our Today's Numbers routine introduces not one, but two numbers for students to contemplate each day. This pack includes two options for display of your daily numbers (Although I used a dry erase board instead) and over 30 prompting questions for students to target specific skills in your math curriculum and provide enough variety so students are engaged from day 1 to day 180.
There are many ways to use this:
-As a math routine for a class leader to do in the morning as part of a morning meeting.
-As a Math Talk topic or conversation startup
-As a math warm-up before a main lesson
-As a daily math journal prompt
-As an extension
-As an early finisher idea
-As your main lesson
-As an exit ticket
-As a quick assessment
-In a math center
Just choose 2 numbers that meet your students' needs (or provide a set of 3 choices to provide for differentiation and student choice) and then choose 1+ prompt for students to consider. They can respond in writing (word and/or pictures) or orally.
This simple twist in our Number of the Day routine gave us so much more to talk about each morning when we began math! It also allowed us to revisit tricky skills many times during the year without getting stale.
