HOW TO USE

Whole Class Shared Reading. You can use the "Biography" and "Vocabulary" passages by displaying the passage on your projector or in Google Classroom. Every student silently reads along as you read aloud to the class. Pause every 5-8 words and students read that word aloud. This is perfect for scaffolding younger readers or struggling readers in grades 4-5.

Literacy Centers. Pair students and have them time each other using the "Fluency" passage. Each student reads the passage silently and makes notes in the margins (see directions). Then they take turn timing each other as they read aloud for 30 seconds. Each time they read, the students will mark where the time ran out. After three repeated fluency readings, they will have improved their reading rate!
