Working in a pre-school with students on the Autism spectrum, toilet training can, at times, prove to be somewhat difficult. Being consistent, along with taking data, is KEY. This is a toilet training data sheet. Students are taken to the restroom every 15 minutes (after each successful elimination, wait 30 minutes).
The data sheet is used to keep track of when the student needs to be taken to the restroom, and to monitor potty training progress over time.
Reinforcers are highly preferred items which are used to reward successful elimination in the toilet. Whatever the reinforcer may be, it cannot be used for anything other than toilet training, students must not have access to the item outside of being rewarded for using the toilet.
Again, consistency is key, setting a timer can be a good way to keep on track with taking students to the restroom. It might also be a good idea to keep this sheet on a clipboard velcroed to the wall by the bathroom.
