This novel study is perfectly aligned to your Colonial Times/Revolutionary War unit! It is broken down by chapters. Every two chapters, your students will complete a vocabulary page, a small group discussion question, and two reading responses. Below is a description of how I used this packet:
Vocabulary/Reading Responses: These were completed independently. The students used an online dictionary to assist with the vocabulary. The first reading response question assesses an ELA skill, the second allows for a creative response where the students can make a personal connection to the text.
Group Discussion Questions: The students worked in small groups to discuss their assigned question. Then, they worked together to type a response to the question. Each group added their typed response to a previously made Google Doc that I posted on Google Classroom. The Google Doc was designed with each question listed, with a spot for group member names and their response. I simple printed one copy of the document after all five groups finished, which made grading super simple. I left comments and a grade on the printed copy, then made a photocopy for each member of the group.
