This novel study is full of graphic organizers and reading skills practice for your students! I created this unit for my special education class that included four different grade levels. With the variation of skills included, I was able to have all of my students, fifth though eighth grade, read the same book while working on their own individual skills. Worksheets were created to meet the standards for the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP), but can easily be used in a general education classroom as well.
Here's a list of what is included for EACH CHAPTER:
-Work Work: Most of this is context clues, with some multiple meaning thrown in there
-Write it Right: Practice using correct capitalization(1st letter, names, "I") and ending punctuation (periods and question marks)
-Understanding the text: Multiple choice comprehension questions
-Text Connections: Three different graphic organizers. One allows students to outline three significant events from the chapter. Another asks the students to compare the points of view of two different characters. The last is a chart where students can identify cause and effect relationships.
-Writing Reflection: Each chapter ends with a brief writing prompt for students to answer both in words and illustrations.
I hope your students enjoy this book as much as my students did! Please let me know any feedback you may have!
