Product Description
I love telling the story “TOM TOM Turkey” in classrooms around Thanksgiving time. It is a great way to introduce several social concepts including: teasing, bullying, expected versus unexpected behavior and feelings. Tom Tom Turkey thinks he is the most beautiful turkey in the world until the other animals on the farm begin teasing him about the colors of his feathers. At night Tom Tom Turkey waits for the wishing star so he can change the colors of his feathers. TomTom Turkey believes that being a plain brown turkey is not good enough!

The author of this story is unknown. In the original story Dick and Jane take Tom Turkey home to meet their mother. Mother roasts the turkey and serves him for Thanksgiving dinner! Recently I have updated the story to meet the changing needs of my students. In the new version, Tom Tom Turkey is orange at the end of the story. He meets the farmer who does not recognize his favorite turkey because he is no longer brown!

This story would be a great opportunity for students to present as a play or short skit! You could have several ladybugs, ducks, grasshoppers, bluebirds and orange cats in your play! It could also could be a nice activity to complete with a buddy class.

This down load includes:
13 Prop Patterns for each character in the story. These can be copied onto construction paper or colored by students. (brown turkey, red turkey, yellow turkey, green turkey, blue turkey, orange turkey, red ladybug, yellow duck, green grasshopper, blue bird, orange cat, yellow wishing star and colorful farmer ).
13 Prop Colored Print Patterns for each character in the story (print onto 8 1/2 x 11 paper).
12 Story Cards for each character. Cut and then glue onto the back of each 8 1/2 x 12 character prop. (Then laminate.)
13 Story Prop Colored Patterns for students to wear around their necks as they act out the story (laminate, hole punch two holes and run yarn through the holes so students can wear as a character necklace-Half sheet in size.)
