Tomie dePaola books are a teacher's dream for effective lessons on comprehension skills, story structure, problem/solution, author's viewpoint, cause and effect, comparing and analyzing story elements and character traits, as well as lending themselves to endless writing opportunities. This Tomie dePaola author study is loaded with high interest lesson plans and fun activities for getting your students reading, writing, and most of all thinking!
Included are 4 printable/projectable anchor charts, 5 different class chart ideas including chart parts, graphic organizers, printables, vocabulary work and a Meet the Author mini research page. In addition to over 20 student response activities it includes a culminating author study folder with cover art and pocket labels which makes the perfect presentation for an open house! Use this unit as a 3-4 week author study or pick and choose from the books and activities throughout the year. I've included lots of teacher support and detailed lesson notes, a book and activities pacing and correlation guide, and photos of my own class anchor charts to support the teaching of the skills. If you use Houghton Mifflin Reading for 2nd grade, all of the Tomie dePaola books in that series are included in this author study.
