Teaching students to analyze tone is tricky! This graphic organizer walks them through tone analysis for a short story, step by step. Students will start by summarizing the text and examining character descriptions and actions. They will examine diction and figurative language, choosing specific textual evidence to support their inferences about tone and theme. Finally, they will use a sentence frame to craft an effective analysis sentence that can function as a thesis or topic sentence. This organizer also includes a place to record SOAPSTone information.
