This lesson introduces students to the concepts of tone and mood with definitions, written examples, movie clip examples from Youtube, and group activities.

For the tone activity, you will need index cards or pieces of paper with different emotions (tones) written on them (like depressed, excited, angry, etc). Students will work in groups to write a short description of a puppy at a pet store using the tones you provide.

For mood, students will analyze a few different movie trailers: the original Elf trailer, Elf re-imagined as a horror film, and the original It re-imagined as a lighthearted family film.
