This is a wonderful "we do" as you introduce your students to identifying tone and mood in literature and non-fiction texts. Students learn how to analyze a text (in this case a song) stanza by stanza. Students are encouraged to use their "tone and mood" worksheet to give them cue words to guide them. Students love watching the video clip and singing along. Handout includes learning target and step by step instructions of how it will be utilized in their groups. This can be downloaded as a Microsoft Word document so that you can make appropriate changes to meet the needs of your classroom structure/environment.
Technology Component: This was uploaded to Google Docs and shared with the "recorder" of each group. Although every student received a physical copy of the handout, the recorder was required to record the group's discussion and analysis on Google Docs in the "comments" margin. The group then presented their analysis to the class.
