Materials Needed: Make sure you have these materials ready:
Make two copies of “Too Many Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” for each student. (one for before the lesson and one for after)
Make one copy of “I’m a Jumping Monkey” student evidence of learning coloring sheet.
(optional) base ten blocks, connecting cubes, counters, marbles, skittles, etc. to help the student organize his or her thinking in concrete ways
Time Required: 10-15 minutes whole group, 10-30 minutes small group centers

Recommended Grade Range: K-5: K-1 Enrichment; 2 On Level; 3-5 Reteaching

Assessment: Too Many Monkeys Jumping on the Bed ~ used as an Exit Slip

Enrichment: Have the students challenge themselves and each other by changing the starting number of monkeys (50) jumping on the bed and filling in the blanks with the new answers.

This would be considered ABOVE GRADE LEVEL or LEVEL 4 and would you allow you to assess whether your child or student has truly mastered these skills by imagining what the new answers would be all on their own.
