Product Description
Thank you for joining me in helping students better understand each other! One thing I’ve learned over the years is that a great way to help students with disabilities is to help their peers know and understand them better.

This presentation takes a bit of a different spin on the diversity of students' needs. The perspective is not what students HAVE (e.g., autism), but what students NEED. With the rise of inclusion over the past 20 years, all students now see a variety of accommodations and strategies among their peers to help them succeed in general education settings. It is vital for our students to understand what their peers need in order to know and support them in school and the community. This presentation explains these strategies in terms of TOOLS. To be sure, all students need tools in school. That fact creates a great common starting point. As we look more closely, some students (particularly students with disabilities) need certain tools that not everyone needs. Highlights the following types of strategies:

-Tools for your BODY (move n' sit, movement breaks, etc.)
-Tools for your EYES (visual schedules, signs, social stories, etc.)
-Tools for your EARS (FM system, earphones, etc.)
-Tools for your HANDS (fidgets, pencil grips, special scissors...)

The teacher alone can facilitate this presentation, but if you would be more comfortable, ask a support staff to help you (e.g., school social worker, occupational therapist, speech therapist). As already mentioned, this can be a presentation for the whole class in general, and it can additionally serve as a way to discuss the needs of one particular student with the rest of the class if needed.

Thank you for joining me in helping students better understand their peers. I am confident this will build capacity in them to better know and support students with unique needs.
