This is an interactive STEM lesson with an emphasis on project-based learning. Using just 80 toothpicks and a cup of mini-marshmallows, students must create the tallest freestanding structure they can.
This lesson includes a whole class discussion, hands on creation of a designed product using the engineering process, and completion of 3 worksheets covering the design, testing and evaluation phases. At the end of the lesson is a great time to give students some experience with sharing their ideas by having each group present to the class.
